Marty Daniels − Director of Marine, Safety and Environmental Affairs; Moss Point, MS

How long have you been with the Company?

1.5 years

What inspired you to do what you do?

Growing up an avid recreational and commercial fisherman, I have a great respect for the sea. This passion drove me to enter the USCG (United States Coast Guard), where I learned the challenges associated with regulatory compliance, as well as safety at sea. I continue to do what I do, so that others may remain safe and in compliance with regulations while operating in the maritime environment.

What do you like about working for Omega Protein?

I have a passion for the fishing industry and Omega Protein is the perfect fit. I am also grateful that there are many seasoned professionals who work for Omega Protein, making it easy to collaborate on compliance issues, and having leadership embrace these programs is the icing on the cake.

Professional History and Accomplishments

I served twenty years in the USCG and specialized in pollution prevention, emergency response, marine salvage, and marine inspections and investigations. I was awarded three USCG Commendation Medals, three USCG Achievement Medals, and seven USCG Letters of Commendation while executing the marine safety mission. My proudest accomplishment thus far at Omega Protein is the development and implementation of the Marine Safety & Environmental Compliance System, with heavy involvement and support from Operations personnel.

Something interesting about me…

When the weather is right in the fall, my son and I (with some friends) like to swim in open water with Whale Sharks near the mouth of the Mississippi River.  I routinely hang out with “Shelby” from The Legend of Shelby The Swamp Man and Ax Men, which airs on the History Channel. His character is genuine and NOT a put on.
