Reefing Program

Omega Protein with fishing partner, Ocean Harvesters have a long history of have a long history of collaborating with government agencies and non-profit organizations to offer retired vessels to artificial reef programs. The most recent fishing vessel that was decommissioned and sunk was the Defender on June 11, 2021. The vessels that have been submerged act as a habitat for marine life, promoting biodiversity and creating recreational fishing and diving opportunities. The former vessels that have been sunk include the F/V Reedville, off of the coast of Delaware in 2020, the F/V Barataria Bay, off the coast of Mississippi in 2015, the F/V Great Wicomico, in the Gulf of Mexico in 2009, and the F/V von Rosenberg, off the coast of Mississippi in 2000.

Hurricane Relief

Following the devastating Hurricane Ida on August 29, 2021, Omega Protein donated fuel, bottled water, and hand sanitizer in bulk to assist the impacted communities in Louisiana. On October 1st, 2021, our team continued our relief efforts by partnering with the Bayou Boys Community Helpers and distributed over 1,000 hot meals to the affected communities in Louisiana. Hurricane Ida made landfall near Port Fourchon, Louisiana as a Category 4 hurricane with winds up to 150mph.

Healthy Harvest Food Bank

Omega Protein makes yearly contributions to the Healthy Harvest Food Bank based in Warsaw, Virginia. Healthy Harvest focuses their efforts on providing healthy, nutrient-dense foods in and around their community. Omega Protein contributes to the food bank by making yearly donations, participating in fundraisers, and our employees help harvest produce for the food bank. We also donate canned goods by hosting a yearly, company-wide food drive during the holiday season.

Meals on Wheels

On a monthly basis, Omega Protein employees volunteer with the local Meals on Wheels program in Northumberland County, Virginia. Meals on Wheels provides nutritional food to homebound seniors within the community to ensure these seniors can continue to live independently in their own residences.

Community Fireworks

Every 4th of July, Omega Protein provides the funding for the Reedville, Virginia firework show. The community attends the show on boats and by land to enjoy the fireworks and honor a long Independence Day tradition.

Community Donations

We are proud to have the opportunity to support organizations within our local communities of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Virginia. As a company, we focus our efforts on organizations who have widespread impacts within the community. In 2022, we donated to YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, Schools, Volunteer Fire Departments and Rescue Squads, Animal Shelters, Food Banks, and more!
